Have you ever heard yourself saying, “God, I just can’t do the thing you’re calling me to do”? It’s almost like Moses at the burning bush saying, “God, I’m not a good speaker. Surely, you can’t want me to lead your people!” We are so quick to doubt God’s intentions for putting us where we are in life.
Have you ever considered, though, that maybe the gifts God has given you and the interests you’ve developed over many years in your business have all been leading you to make an impact in an unexpected place? Maybe, just maybe, God has been giving you exactly what you need to meet others where they are and step out of your comfort zone.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” - 1 Peter 4:10
Take Adam Younger, the President of 812 MX Ministry, who grew up riding dirt bikes. Now, he runs an organization whose mission is to reach those who race dirt bikes on the weekends by offering them “Dirt Church.” What started as just a few people coming over on Sundays to their pop-up worship service became over 180 people every week, all because Adam was faithful to meet people where they were and use his gifts to make an impact for the kingdom.
Sometimes, it can be hard to take the thing you love and turn it into a ministry. It’s almost like when you turn a hobby into a job. However, Adam saw God giving him a passion for dirt bikes as much more than just a sport to enjoy but as a chance to bring his faith into what he loves.
Are there people in your business who have passions that you can embrace and utilize to create faith-driven opportunities?
“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” - Philippians 2:1-4
For some, the concept of “Dirt Church” at a dirt bike track may immediately start to make you question whether that’s okay, mainly because it feels so different than the traditional church services you may be used to. However, the beauty of it is that for these riders, it is an incredible testimony that God wants to reach them, even if it’s on the dirt bike track. When we are faithful to step outside of what we feel comfortable with and meet people where they are, God can do some truly incredible things.
The author C.S. Lewis once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.” In the practice of serving others, humility plays a vital role in us setting aside what we find easy and doing some hard things in order to reach others. In your business, there may be people you don’t know or personalities that you don’t connect with easily.
Jesus still wants to reach those people. You should too.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:8-10
God created each of us to spread his love and do good in his name. Time and time again, he prepares opportunities for us to have a kingdom impact in our workplace and beyond. We have to be willing to embrace those opportunities. We have to be willing to start a church at the dirt bike track, hand out our testimonies to our employees, or even meet the financial needs of people who need help.
Every day, we are given countless opportunities to bring Christ to work and spread his name. It may not be easy, but it is certainly possible and worthy of our effort. So, as you go into this month, find ways to utilize the gifts and talents God has given you to reach the people who walk into your doors every day.
