Faith in Action: Empowering Communities through Work and Service

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.

-John 13:34-35

In accordance with the teachings of Jesus, we are called to love one another as He has loved us. This love extends beyond our workplace and into the broader community. It is through our faith in action that we have the opportunity to make a positive difference and empower our communities.

As followers of Christ, it is our responsibility to practice faith in action by giving back and helping those in need. Our motivation for serving should not be driven by personal gain but by a genuine desire to contribute to the well-being of others. Through acts of service, we demonstrate love, care, and concern for our neighbors both near and far.

Business as an Instrument of Service

Using our businesses as instruments of service, we can actively support and uplift our communities. This can be done through various means, such as making donations, engaging in charity work, or partnering with local organizations. By leveraging our resources and talents, we can address community needs and promote positive change.

In the journey of faith and work, some businesses serve as shining examples of faith in action where they use their business as platforms to make a positive impact and show Christ's love to the community. Three such inspiring companies are the John Houston Family of Companies, ServiceMaster, and Stable Recovery.

The John Houston Family of Companies, led by its founder John Houston, embodies a commitment to community service. Through various initiatives and partnerships, they have actively engaged in projects that uplift and support the community. Whether it's providing affordable housing, contributing to local charities, or organizing community events, they have demonstrated the power of business as an instrument of service.

ServiceMaster, a leading provider of essential services, has incorporated its values of faith in action and service into its business practices. They not only deliver top-quality services to their customers but also prioritize giving back to the community. Through their philanthropic efforts and employee volunteer programs, they have made a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

Stable Recovery, a company dedicated to addiction recovery, goes beyond offering treatment services. They have recognized the importance of faith in action by addressing the holistic needs of individuals and their communities. By partnering with local organizations, supporting recovery programs, and actively promoting community involvement, Stable Recovery exemplifies the transformative power of faith-based businesses.

These companies serve as inspiring models for how businesses can integrate faith and work to impact the community positively. By aligning their operations with their values, they have shown that success goes beyond financial achievements. They have fostered a culture of service, making a difference in the lives of those they touch and leaving a lasting legacy.

As individuals and entrepreneurs, we can draw inspiration from these examples of faith in action. We can use our businesses as instruments of service, embracing the opportunity to show Christ's love to the community. By partnering with local organizations, supporting causes close to our hearts, and engaging in acts of service, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Service is an Ongoing Commitment

It is important to remember that service is not just a one-time event but an ongoing commitment. We should strive to cultivate a spirit of compassion, empathy, and generosity in all aspects of our lives. By embodying these values, we create a ripple effect that inspires others to join in serving the community.

Let us embrace the call to love one another and use our faith and work as vehicles for meaningful service. Together, we can make a lasting impact, bring hope to those in need, and build stronger, more compassionate communities.

Let the stories at Christ at Work inspire and encourage you to practice faith in action by leveraging your business to make a difference in the lives of people. Together, we can create a ripple effect of compassion, love, and service, transforming not only our businesses but also the communities we serve.
